Managing Conflicts The main purpose of the article Managing conflicts in learning teams, written by Shelia Porter, is to inform the readers about conflicts in more detail, reason and demonstrate the positive and constructive effects of conflicts, and then to offer effective methods of resolving conflicts. First, the author explores and elaborates the nature of conflicts; its causes and reasons, reactions of team members on conflicts, results and outcomes of conflicts, and resolution techniques. The major part of the article is dedicated to this last item, namely conflict resolution approaches. She lists and explains in detail the five conflict resolution techniques. These techniques are: avoidance, accommodation, competition, compromise, and collaboration. After these techniques, the author tells about the use of self-control and self-assessment.
