Women at the Workplace Naturally, the types of work that men do differ from those of women. Men are more eligible for hard manual labor, highly stressful jobs, and positions that require huge responsibility. Women, on the other hand, are more prone to jobs that require less physical labor, less responsibility. According to the Department of Labor statistical data, of all secretaries and administrative assistants in the United States, 96.3% are women. Women account for 80.6% of all elementary and middle school teachers. Another prominent job positions that are most occupied by women in America include bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks (91.4%), receptionists and information clerks (93.2%), and teacher assistants (90.9%). The phenomenon of jobs differences between women and men can be explained by women’s natural occupation, which is being a mother. In addition, women are more “caregiving,” due to their natural maternal instinct. Men, on he other hand, are more prone to “risk taking” positions, because of the natural urge for newer “territories,” which is an echo of the men’s original occupation – hunting. Furthermore, women strive for less exhausting jobs because they have to save their energy for home, where they have to perform household needs, and watch the kids. This applies to traditional families only, because in newer types of families and newer philosophies, roles of male and female have changed dramatically. Modern women, however, attempt to challenge the roles given to them by nature and society. Feminism is a collection of various beliefs, theories, and moral philosophies that are typically concerned about the social, economic, and political inequality between women and men. Most notable types of feminism are liberal feminism and radical feminism. Liberal feminism argues that men are not the direct source of inequalities. Supporters claim that it is the society and culture that account for inequality, and that by legal social reform justice and equality can be restored. Radical feminism, on the other hand, views men as the primary reason for the inequalities. Supporters of radical feminism reject traditional gender roles and they fight male oppression, for which radical feminism is sometimes referred to as militant feminism. Ultimately, naturally the roles of male and female in a family and in society at large are different, because men are physically stronger and are “risk takers” or “hunters.” Women, on the other hand, are first of all mothers, who should devote time to offspring and house. For this reason they choose less exhausting jobs where they can actualize their “caregiving” nature. Men and women are different at the workplace, but this difference is normal and natural, and it is this difference that makes us attractive to one another.
